Navadurga, Night 3: Chandraghanta, the Moon-Bell Warrior
Tradition tells that when Shiva arrived to marry Parvati with his wild wedding procession of ganas, ghosts and spirits, Queen Mena fainted in fright. Parvati took the dazzling warrior form Chandraghanta, whose moon-bell rang out and calmed every fear, and gently asked Shiva to appear in a gentle, beautiful form for the wedding. Shiva agreed, and the wedding of Shiva and Parvati was celebrated with joy. Make clear the Chandraghanta form here comes from devotional tradition. Lesson: courage that protects others and replaces fear with calm.
