Navadurga, Night 7: Kalaratri, Who Swallows the Darkness
In the great battle, the demon Raktabija had a boon: from every drop of him that touched the ground, a new Raktabija sprang up, until the battlefield was crowded with copies. The goddess took her darkest, fiercest form — Kalaratri, 'the night that ends even time' — and with a vast open mouth caught every falling drop before it touched the earth, so no new demon could rise, and Raktabija was defeated. Present this gently: show glowing drops being caught like sparks, never blood. Explain why the scariest-looking form is also called Shubhankari, 'the one who brings good'. Lesson: don't judge by appearances, and we can face our fears.
